THE family behind Sew Yarn Crafty on the High Street have announced their plans to open a new deli.

Aileen, Kirstie, Tristan, Mike and Fern Wright are transforming the old Dunfermline Sewing Machines store into Dunfermline's very own Deli and Larder, Must Be Crackers.

The exciting new project is well underway and the family are working hard to renovate the space so that it's ready to sell fine cheese and artisan snacks to the people of West Fife.

Aileen told the Press: "I own the Sew Yarn Crafty and I've had that business on the High Street for the last seven years.

"I know that even though people sometimes have negative things to say about Dunfermline our customers don't. Our customers love shopping local, they love shopping in person."

Aileen has owned the store two doors up from Sew Yarn Crafty for a while now and has been waiting for the right project to come along to give the shop a new lease on life.

She continued: "I just decided that I wanted to put a long-term project into there that I could develop over time and grow with customers' needs.

"It is a steep learning curve for me, there's a lot for me to learn but I've got a staff member lined up with deli experience and it's a family-run business with my husband, my brother-in-law and his wife, and the four of us love to eat fine food.

"Selling it is a different thing so we're doing all the things we need to with food standards and all of that so we're working with Fife Council."

It's sure to be a massive undertaking but the Wrights are taking it in their stride.

Aileen laughed: "The name of the shop, Must Be Crackers, came out of the fact that we wanted to call it a generic food-related name.

"That's where the Crackers came from but I said to my husband, 'People are going to think we're crackers for opening two shops on the high street'!"

With four to five weeks of renovations in the works, there's still a bit of time until they can open their doors.

To keep customers enticed in the meantime, they plan to document their renovations on their social media channels.
