WEST Fife organisations are being invited to apply for a free tree after several local organisations benefitted from a nationwide scheme earlier this year.

The Woodland Trust is hoping to give away its fifteen millionth free tree to a school or community group this year.

The last round of distribution in the Spring saw trees going to Fife groups including Dunfermline Play and Grow, Blooming Lovely Dalgety Bay, Crossgates Primary School, Treetop Family Nurture Centre, Canmore Primary School, Lynburn Community Garden, Aberdour Primary School and the West Fife Woodlands Group.

George Anderson, of Woodland Trust Scotland, said: “We’re so proud of the numbers of free trees we’ve been able to give away, knowing they’ll be planted where they can really make a difference – in school grounds and out in the community.

“We’re in the grip of a climate and nature crisis which can’t be overcome without concerted action, so I’d urge every school or community group who can, to get involved and plant more trees!

“Applying is easy and all saplings are fully funded for those receiving the trees in our autumn delivery in November. All you need is time and a small piece of land to plant on.”

Applications for the charity’s ever-popular free tree-packs close at the end of August for delivery in November as the Trust seeks takers across the UK for 800,000 saplings to take it over the line.
