A COUPLE who met thanks to the construction of the Forth Road Bridge have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this week.

Special diamond celebrations took place for Tom and Catherine (Rena) Gibson at the weekend to mark the special occasion.

The couple first met in 1962 whilst Tom was working as a construction worker on the bridge and Rena was employed as a typist in the new bridge administration office.

They married the next year on September 7, 1963, at the White Church in West Pilton, Edinburgh, close to where Tom was brought up.

They went on to have three daughters, Lynn, Jennifer and Victoria as well as seven grandchildren.

After starting their married life in South Queensferry, the couple lived in Kirkliston before moving to Dunfermline to be closer to their family.

Tom, 81, worked as a Civil/Marine Engineer and he eventually started his own successful business where he worked until he retired in 1997. Rena, 80, worked as a receptionist at Drambuie in Kirkliston until she retired when the business closed.

The couple enjoyed a celebration with the family at the weekend to mark their special milestone.
