PLANS have been approved to turn the former shop and post office in Kingseat into a house.

Rudi Tanner's change of use application for the premises at 13 Henderson Street, which closed four years ago, was partly put down to a "change in traditional shopping patterns".

A planning statement on his behalf explained: "The advent and explosion of superstore and convenience stores in the Dunfermline area has had a detrimental affect on the traditional 'corner shop' in respect of their sustainability, making many ineffective and redundant.

"Unsurprisingly, the former independent shop and post office at 13 Henderson Street has suffered the same fate, finally closing to those few remaining customers in 2019.

"The main issues contributing to this closure were lack of buying power, higher costs and lower salaries and conditions, when compared with local superstore and convenience stores.

"The owners purchased 15 Henderson Street and the adjacent property of 13 Henderson Street together as a parcel and there is an existing door and opening linking the two properties."

Permission has been granted to change the use of the shop to provide ancillary accommodation.

The statement added: "The proposal is a logical solution to an issue created by a change in traditional shopping patterns predicated by the change in the economy."

In August 2022 Mr Tanner received planning permission for a new house to be built to the rear of 15 Henderson Street.
