'MINDLESS' vandalism has in the Izatt Avenue area of Dunfermline has led to a bus service in the area being halted after 4pm.

Following several incidents over the last week, Stagecoach East Scotland confirmed the decision and said CCTV from the area is now being looked at.

A post on Twitter from the bus operator on Saturday stated: "Due to objects being thrown at buses, we will not be servicing Izatt Avenue, Johnstone Crescent or Keir Hardie Terrace in Dunfermline for the rest of the evening.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

A spokesperson for Stagecoach East Scotland said discussions are continuing on how to tackle the issue.

"Unfortunately, buses operating in the Izatt Avenue area of Dunfermline within the last week have sustained damage due to objects being thrown at them," they said.

"We are thankful that no injuries have been caused but this mindless vandalism causes unnecessary delays, diversions and costly repairs. "In discussion with Fife Council, the decision has been made to remove the service after 4pm in these areas to protect the safety of our staff and customers, and we are discussing the ongoing implications.

"CCTV footage of each incident is being reviewed and we are also working with the Police to prevent future issues and to protect the community."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "We are aware of reckless behaviour involving objects being thrown at buses in the Brucefield area of Dunfermline recently.

"We are working with Stagecoach and enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible."

The bus operator has also reacted to a social media complaint that teenage girls were allegedly shouting racist remarks on the number 19 bus to Rosyth on Friday evening.

Responding to the post on X/Twitter, they stated: "We don't condone this type of language on the bus. The driver may not have heard this, I do apologise.

"We are sorry you have experienced anti-social behaviour with customers. We don't condone this behaviour, if the driver is made aware they can take action to resolve any incidents at the time. Any serious incidents can be investigated once reported."
