A TROUBLESOME pothole in Inverkeithing is finally set to be filled in after causing drivers problems for nearly a year.

Local councillor David Barratt confirmed action was set to be taken on the "familiar sight" to motorists travelling on Boreland Road.

Describing it as Inverkeithing's "pet pothole" and the "Old Faithful", Cllr Barratt provided a festive update on the situation on Facebook.

He said he, fellow councillor Sarah Neal and countless members of the public have attempted to have something done since February this year.

"The pothole took until April to be first tucked away in their tarmac duvet, by which time they had bloated having consumed far too many tyres," said Cllr Barratt.

"It only took a few months for that repair to fail and Old Faithful had to be tucked away again in November. Not wishing to miss out on the festive spirit, they have made a swift return for December, but I am now told a further emergency repair will be undertaken, with a permanent repair to be undertaken in February."

An email from a Fife Council official said the defect – which is situated outside the railway station - would be looked at this week.

It added: "I have had a look at the history of this location and it seems there are two significant defects, both repaired recently but separately.

"At the beginning of November, when attending the site after an emergency request, the local inspector arranged an immediate repair and a large programmed permanent patch. The patch will take out the two potholes and surrounding surface defects.

"The target for this work is February, but we will keep a close eye on the location and repair on a temporary basis if required."
