More than eight million free bus journeys have been made by young people in Fife since the scheme was launched two years ago.

Free bus travel for everyone under 22 was introduced in January 2022, and since then young people in Fife have taken 8,137,945 free journeys, using their free bus pass which allows them to travel anywhere in Scotland.

Mark Ruskell, Scottish Green MSP, hailed the scheme as “transformative”, adding that it had opened up communities and the country to young people, and was a big boost for the environment, helping to cut emissions and reducing the numbers of cars on the road.

He said: “Every free bus journey means more money in people’s pockets, which will be hugely welcome for families who are being hit with bigger bills and extra costs over winter.

“I want every young person to have the same fantastic benefits and opportunities. I am delighted that so many have already signed up, and encourage all of those who have yet to do so to visit Freebus.scot and register for their card today.”
