Cyclist Mark Wedgwood undertook a massive journey across Britain on his bike - and now he's set to share his experience in a talk in Dunfermline.

In 2022, Mark cycled 7,300 miles across the areas covered by all 204 Ordnance Survey Landranger maps, in numerically ascending order. The six-month journey took Mark to every part of Scotland, England, Wales and the Isle of Man.

Now in talks for the Royal Scottish Geographical Society (RSGS), Mark will share his journey to the most extreme and hard-to-reach places to the most mundane and everyday.

Mark said: "I'm an ordinary person; but in 2022 - without leaving this country - I set myself an extraordinary challenge that turned out to be life changing.

"I'm really excited to have the opportunity to share my journey and hopefully inspire a few more people to find and achieve their own personal challenge."

His descriptions of his carefully devised cycling routes will introduce his audiences to lesser-known places, strange anomalies and endearing stories that tell of a country that still offers a catalogue of truly uplifting experiences.

No adventure can take you everywhere in Britain, but this one comes close.

RSGS Dunfermline group chair Alison Thompson commented: “We are delighted to have Mark Wedgwood speak in Dunfermline for the Inspiring People talks programme.

“Undertaking a 7,300-mile journey around the UK is no small feat, and Mark’s method of doing so, by cycling every OS Landranger Map in order, gives an extra level of depth to his journey, with more care and consideration given to the places he travelled. It will be fascinating to hear about everything he encountered on the way.”

Mark’s talk at the Carnegie Conference Centre on Wednesday, January 10, starts at 7pm. Tickets are free for RSGS members, students and under-18s, and £10 for general admission.

Tickets are available to book online in advance at rsgs.org/events, and will be available at the door (for cash only).
