Football supporters across the country are looking forward to Scotland competing in this summer's European Championships in Germany.

And Dunfermline MP Douglas Chapman wants to make sure as many fans as possible can enjoy the big match atmosphere by calling for fan zones to be set up, including one in the city.

Mr Chapman said: “Despite their most enthusiastic efforts, not every member of the Tartan Army will get to Germany as tickets will be hard to come by and getting there will be expensive too.

“For those who can’t get to Germany, this is an opportunity to bring Scotland games to the big fan zone screen and allow our fans, who can’t travel, the chance to enjoy the games in a big match like atmosphere."

He's put forward an Early Day Motion at Westminster calling on the UK Government to set up a special fund for community groups who wish to create fan zones, and he'd really like to see one in Dunfermline.

The idea is clearly still in the early stages, but perhaps East End Park, Pittencrieff Park or even the Public Park could be potential locations for a fan zone? A big open space where a large screen or screens could be installed would make for an incredible atmosphere for local supporters.

Scotland qualified for the tournament following a thrilling qualifying campaign, finishing second in their group behind Spain.

They've now been drawn against Switzerland, Hungary and hosts Germany, who they will compete against in a tantalising opener on June 14.

This is only the second tournament Scotland have qualified for since the World Cup in France 1998, and there are hopes for a better showing this time than the disappointing campaign at Euro 2020 (played in 2021 due to the Covid pandemic) .

There is a sense of optimism in the Scotland camp following some impressive results in the qualifying campaign including the 2-0 victory against Spain at Hampden and a last gasp 2-1 victory against Norway in Oslo.

Would you like to see the fan zones put in place? And if so, do you have any suggestions of potential locations?
