THE Liberty Church in Dunfermline has appointed a new centre manager to oversee links with local groups, charities and professional organisations.

Eric Parker, 64, who now lives in Lochgelly, aims to find new ways to provide affordable space in their Pitreavie Way premises to meet a variety of needs for the business sector, statutory agencies and therapeutic projects.

The church moved into the former Dunfermline Press building - we moved to offices in Pitreavie Drive in 2014 - and there are small, medium and large function rooms available, as well as undeveloped areas that could support numerous activities.Dunfermline Press: Eric Parker, the new centre manager for the Liberty Church in Dunfermline.Eric Parker, the new centre manager for the Liberty Church in Dunfermline. Eric said: "It would bring in income to support what we are doing but would also make appropriate use of the space.

"We'd also very much like the church to be more welcoming and have more of an impact in the community."

The building is already used as a cafe and by Dunfermline Foodbank, as well as Connect, a group for anyone who considers themselves 'senior' and enjoys chatting, home baking, crafts and games, and the Sing in the City choir, but there's room for more.

Eric said his background is in church leadership but he also spent more than a decade working with mental health services for the NHS.

He added: "I've always regarded myself as an agent of change. Whatever role I've had in church life or secular employment, I feel that's what I bring.

"I don't have the feeling it will all happen in a fortnight, I think it will be a gradual trickle as we make changes."

The church meets every Sunday at 10.30am.
