Award-winning playwright, Lance Nielsen, is fundraising to bring his satirical play on the Post Office Scandal to Dunfermline.

The dark satirical play, which was written back in 2012, first took to the stage in 2022 to shine a light on what many believe to be the biggest miscarriage of justice in British history.

False Accounts- Exposing the Post Office Cover-Up was first performed in London and Birmingham but now Lance wishes to travel the UK, stopping off in Dunfermline at the Carnegie Hall this summer to entertain and educate West Fife on the scandal.

He told the Press: "I've worked on several social issue plays before, but the Horizon Post Office scandal is different. This is not something that happened to one group of people over a single incident of something that went wrong.

"This is a national calamity that impacted the entire social fabric of British society, it is not something that happened over 20 years ago, as the Prime Minister of the UK unfortunately incorrectly stated, it was still going on right until the court case victory in 2019 / 2020."

Since the original draft of the play, new information has continued to come to light and the play is constantly updated to reflect this.

Lance said: "There are people at every level both at Post Office and Fujitsu who not only broke the law but knew they were doing so and subsequently covered it up.

"This is the one time where we as a society must demand justice and see that those responsible face the inside of the courtroom, just as they did to the Subpostmasters before them.

"If we as a society do not demand such action, then we are basically saying to the higher echelons of our government that is okay for such individuals to behave this way because they will never face any consequences for their actions.

"Our play underscores this message, bringing the raw stories of the victims to the stage, as we did before in 2022."

Many victims of the scandal endorsed the production and over 40 former and current Subpostmasters went to see it during its first run.

It's because of their unwavering support that Lance feels the need to continue to share their story.

He continued: "I wrote and staged this play to remind the postmasters that they were not alone. And many of those in Scotland were alone in this fight for so long.

"Scotland deserves to have this play. We must send the message that we have heard their stories, and we must continue to hear them, and we must fight alongside them and send a firm message that we will not stand for the hard-working men and women of our country to be treated this way.

"Our play is our contribution towards making that stand. I've written 15 plays, but nothing has ever been more important to me than this."

Currently, Lance is fundraising to raise £43,690. This money is the minimum amount they require to put on the show and will go to paying the basic costs of the show, accommodation, travel costs and wages for the company of twelve.
