A weather warning for strong winds has been issued for Fife and much of Scotland and is due to come into effect at 9am this morning (Wednesday, January 31).

The Met Office yellow warning will be in place until 5pm this evening. Gusts of around 50-69mph are expected, with stronger winds in the north of Scotland.

The Met Office says there could be some disruption to travel today, with the winds - which are due to be accompanied by heavy rain from later this morning - causing difficult driving conditions.

High-sided vehicle drivers are urged to take extra care on exposed routes and bridges, while there is the possibility of damage to trees, which could lead to road closures.

There could also be some delays to bus and rail travel, with some journeys taking longer.
