Limelight Productions are back for 2024 with the blisteringly hot, hilariously funny and uplifting musical ‘School of Rock’.

The show is set for the stage at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline from Wednesday, February 21 to Saturday, February 24.

Production manager Fiona Mitchell said: “The School of Rock production team and cast have worked tirelessly over a very short period of only 13 weeks to bring together what promises to be a spectacular and colourful show to the Alhambra stage.

“We have video walls, rock songs, pyrotechnics, hilarious comedy, and of course a 48 strong cast including 26, 10- to15-year-old children who rock out and completely ‘Stick it to the Man’.

"Seeing the kids playing their instruments in the finale is a sheer joy, and truly does bring a tear to the eye.”

Based on the 2010 hit movie starring Jack Black, the story revolves around an overly enthusiastic guitarist, Dewey Finn, who gets thrown out of his band and finds himself in desperate need of work.

He ends up posing as a substitute music teacher at an elite private elementary school, he exposes his students to the hard rock gods he idolises and emulates, entering them into a local battle of the bands competition.

The stage version of the musical was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and featured hits ‘Stick it to the Man’, ‘Teachers Pet’, and ‘Where did the Rock go’.

School of Rock ran on Broadway and The West End for three years up until 2019, being nominated for several Tony and Olivier awards in that time.

The show comes hot on the heels of Limelight’s very successful run of Phantom of the Opera in October.

Company manager Bobby Mitchell said: “We were often asked, how were we going to top what we had done with Phantom?

"The answer I gave was that it’s not necessarily about topping what we had just done, but more about working hard to make sure each subsequent production is as good and as it can be in its own right.

“Each production we take on has its own very individual challenges, and unique style, and we feel that as long as we stay true to our philosophy of hard work, attention to detail, maintaining high production values and continue to push the boundaries regarding what’s possible within the limitations of ‘amateur’ theatre, we know that each production will be equally worthy in its own right, irrespective of what went before it.”

School of Rock runs from Wednesday, February 21, to Saturday, February 24, with a matinee performance on the Saturday afternoon. For tickets, go to the Alhambra Theatre website.
