A banned motorist was caught driving in Dunfermline after making an “idiotic” decision.
As a result, 55-year-old John Montgomery, of David Henderson Court, Dunfermline, landed himself with another ban.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court he admitted that on January 7 in Albany Street, he drove a car when disqualified.
Depute fiscal Catherine Stevenson said at 3pm police stopped a silver Ford Fiesta being driven by Montgomery. Checks revealed that in September he had been banned from driving for a year.
Defence solicitor Kerr Sneddon said his client had been banned for drink-driving and “he needs to get his licence back as soon as possible”.
“He’s not behaving very sensibly then, is he?” commented Sheriff Garry Sutherland.
“He made a stupid decision,” said the solicitor. “He buys and sells cars and was taking it for a valet.”
Sheriff Sutherland told Montgomery: “This is beyond stupid for the sake of 200 yards when you had only just been disqualified not long before. It was idiotic.”
He imposed a new one-year driving ban and fined Montgomery £320.
