A Saline couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today (Thursday, February 22).

Iain Angus Murray and Margaret Jean Murray, née Hague, both 76, got married when they were just 16 years old.

The couple grew up in Edinburgh and met when they were 14, and even lived in the same block of flats.

The pair married in St Cuthbert’s Church, Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh, on February 22, 1964.

Iain and Margaret then moved to Saline on December 1, 1969. Both were foster carers for over 40 years and had a range of jobs.

Iain worked in a garage, then for the coal board as an engineer, and then worked in mining. Margaret has been a telephonist, driving instructor, bar worker, caterer, postie, and has worked in a quarry office.

They went on to have five children: Donna, Julie, Bonnie, Paul, and Lisa. Sadly, Donna has passed away. The couple also have seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family are now planning to celebrate the diamond couple's anniversary by having a party at Saline Golf Club on Friday night for around 70 friends and family.
