It's been a busy year for Robyn Drummond, one of the winners at last year's Dunfermline Press / Central Fife Times Community Champion Awards.

And it looks like there will be no let up for our Entrepreneurial Champion in 2024.

Robyn never believed starting a health and well-being Facebook group in the midst of a global pandemic could lead to a fully-fledged business and an array of awards.

But four years down the line, Robyn is delighted to be able to continue her work while also  giving back to her community.

Her efforts to help thousands of women across Fife, and further afield, with their health and fitness goals and for that, earned her richly-deserved recognition at last year's Community Champion Awards.

She said: "Last year it was so surprising because I didn't expect to get nominated, so that came as a huge shock. I really cared about the event, I think because the award was an entrepreneur award and was the first award that really truly represented the journey that I had been on.

"Whilst I probably never told anyone I would have loved it, winning it was incredible. It was a really good feeling, I was so shocked!

"I was in an incredible category with some incredible businesses, some of which I have had a great experience and I just thought, wow, what a privilege to win it!"

It's been quite a journey for Robyn. After leaving school with no qualifications, she went to Fife College and did a business course and has since completed a Bachelor's Degree in Sport, Fitness and Coaching and earned her personal trainer qualifications.

Putting all her studying into practice, Robyn Drummond Fitness was created at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

She won the Fife's Best Fitness Business of the Year in 2021, and the Young Business Woman of the Year in 2022, and her membership and subsequent business has grown so rapidly that she even launched her own app last year.

Attending the Community Champion Awards, and winning in her category, was a great networking opportunity for Robyn.

She continued: "I connected with an individual at the event, who I knew anyway prior to it but since then have had the opportunity to be a part of the Inspiring Women Leaders event in Fife, which is a free event for women to speak about their journey. I was asked to be the closing speaker of that event organised by Fife Council.

"I have had opportunities off the back of the awards, which has been amazing, and I've had more recognition through the Dunfermline Press to create awareness of the membership and exactly what we do."

Looking ahead, Robyn is hoping to build on her success, while staying true to who she is and her morals as a businesswoman.

This year she has started working with a business partner and, just this week, she has relaunched her fitness app so that she is able to offer memberships for less.

"To be in a position to invest in an app to make people's experience even more incredible has been amazing," she said. "In a world where the cost of living is having such an impact, and we see costs rising in every area, one thing I wanted to do was reduce our costs because nobody should feel like they have to cancel gym memberships or any form of health or activity, as ultimately it's so important not just for physical but for mental well-being."

Robyn, who never expected that her lockdown pursuits could have turned into an award-winning business, added: "It's been an absolute whirlwind of a journey. It was never supposed to be a business, it started as a community group online just to help people get by during the pandemic.

"The awards are such a wonderful thing, especially the Entrepreneurial Champions because it was a local community one. We should look at who makes a difference within our communities and that they should be recognised for the work that they do.

"I don't wake up every day or do the work that I do to be recognised for it, I’m just happy that people get a great programme or service, but it does make all the hard work really worthwhile.

"There are such good people in our communities who deserve recognition for the work that they do.

"While a lot of these people, by nature, are just so happy to give, it is a lovely feeling when they do get that recognition for all the efforts that they put in.

"Look into your communities, see who’s making a difference and absolutely nominate them for the Community Champion Awards."
