IMPROVEMENTS have been made to the Dunfermline crematorium's Snowdrop Baby Memorial Garden.

Parents who visit the garden to help deal with their grief and loss were pleased to see that Fife Council have made improvements to the garden after damage was done to the wooden trellis by strong winds in recent months.

The garden provides a much needed quiet space for them to come to remember their babies but the bereaved parents were beginning to feel concerned that the area was looking a bit unkempt and in need of some attention.

Fife Council have since carried out work to replace the wooden trellis and planted copious amounts of colourful bedding plants in the ground in front of it.

In addition, they have power-washed the central slabs and spread new stones across the area.

All of this work has brightened the look of the memorial garden and refreshed a beautiful space for parents to come to remember their babies.

One parent said: “This garden was a refuge for me when I lost my baby in 2019. I would often come here to sit quietly with my thoughts and remember him and talk to him.

"It was a shame to see the recent wind damage but I am so grateful to Fife Council for the effort they have put into tidying the area up. It means so much to me to know that someone cares about this special place that is so important to me and so many others.

"The gardeners have done a beautiful job and I’m very grateful.”

The memorial garden is supported by Fife Sands, the local branch of Sands National charity. Through Fife Sands, bereaved parents can receive peer support and information.

Fife Sands are the main point of contact for anyone who would like the name of their baby added to the memorial stones.
