A Dunfermline man was caught three times over the limit driving his works van the morning after the night before.

Stephen Ewing, 50, of Kingfisher Place, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on February 9 at Pittsburgh Road, Dunfermline, he drove a van having consumed excess alcohol. His reading was 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 microgrammes.

Depute fiscal Eva McKaig said that at around 9.05am Ewing’s van was stopped by police because of a defective rear light.

Defence solicitor Elaine Buist said: “He had misjudged the amount of alcohol he had consumed the previous evening. He’s a joiner and the van is owned by his employer.”

Sheriff John MacRitchie banned Ewing for a year and fined him £640.
