THE Post & Pantry in Aberdour has announced that their Post Office Counter will be closing for good in May.

After taking over the village post office seven years ago, and a very successful retail year in 2022, Pamela Phillips and Amanda Braid have been fortunate enough to be in a position to expand their business.

They took over the former Green Witch's shop and have since had to make the tough decision to close up the postal counter for good and focus on building the "foodie business [we] dreamed of."

Pamela told the Press: "Our goal was to create a welcoming space with an efficient Post Office Counter - we feel quite proud of the business we built.  The retail side of the business has been successful and at the end of 2022 we were able to expand into what was The Green Witch's shop.

"It's been our pleasure to serve Aberdour as Sub-Postmasters over the years. The Post Office Counter has been an important part of our business and the decision was not taken lightly.

"The smaller shop is no longer financially viable for us to run. Paying bills for the two premises as well as keeping them fully stocked is a lot.

"We decided to focus on the bigger shop which is the side of the business we've always wanted to do. So, with the premise closing the Post Office counter is also closing.

"We own the property and it only houses the Post Office counter because we applied to be sub-postmasters.  We no longer want to hold this position."

The Post & Pantry Post Office Counter's last day of trading will be May 1 and going forward the independent store will be known as P&P Deli.

Updating their customers on Facebook, Amanda and Pamela said: "Many have asked if we will continue to be called 'Post & Pantry' once we give up the 'Post'.

"We will be known as 'P&P Deli' going forward. Much of our branding already uses the 'P&P' and we thought it unnecessary to completely re-brand when we have established a nice name for ourselves.

"We would like to express our appreciation for your support and hope we continue to see lots of you in P&P Deli!"

A new independent business will soon move into the old Post and Pantry building. Currently, nobody has come forward to take over the Post Office.
