A DUNFERMLINE Musical Theatre Company is set to bring Lionel Bart's Oliver! to life this week.

The group of nine to 18-year-olds at Why Not? have been working tirelessly to put on one hell of a performance for their audiences at the Carnegie Hall.

Graeme Melvin, the founder and director of Why Not? Musical Theatre Company, told the Press: "We’re doing Oliver, which is a timeless classic. It’s such a classic tale, everybody knows it and I don't know what it is but Dunfermline audiences just seem to love Oliver.

"They go crazy for it so it’s definitely a good choice and the kids are loving it as well- which is the main thing!"

The musical, which is based on the 1838 novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, follows the story of a starving orphan as he navigates the mean streets of London.

And the kids can't wait to show West Fifers their take on the timeless classic.

Graeme continued: "They’re so excited, they are just so excited. We had our band call yesterday with the orchestra and they were absolutely on the roof.

"For any musical theatre performer, being able to perform with a live band or orchestra is always one of the most exciting points of the week so they were as high as kites yesterday!"

As they continue to put the finishing touches on their performances, Graeme is encouraging the public to come along and support the budding Broadway stars.

He added: "To support local talent and the youth of today is one thing that I would really encourage people to do.

"Sometimes young people can get a really bad rep for antisocial behaviour but our cast is a great bunch of young people who are up there giving it their all.

"At the end of the day that’s all we can really ask for and giving them a live audience to get some appreciation for their hard work would be wonderful- if the people of Dunfermline could come out and support."

Shows will run from Thursday, April 4 until Saturday, April 6 at 7:30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2:00pm.

Tickets are priced at £17 for an adult, £15 for a child or £60 for a family of four and are available to purchase through the OnFife website for a reservation fee of £1.
