A local community trust has been working hard over the past four years to unite the community in Crossgates.

Primrose Community Trust (PCT) is on a journey to developing first-class facilities in the area and is hoping to finalise their submission for planning permission in the next few months for a new community hub and sports complex.

Speaking about PCT, Ian Campbell, chairman, commented: “It’s a charity, a big, big, charity in Crossgates. I set this up with trustees about four years ago. The overall theme was to develop much needed facilities.”

The group has made huge differences to Crossgates in terms of community engagement, health, fitness and nutrition, welfare support, youth and children’s development, sport and recreation and education, heritage, and sustainability and biodiversity.

These make up the trust’s six pillars, which are their visions and values. Ian added that they are “uniting the community under six different areas”.

The trust are preparing to launch their first fundraising raffle which is being supported by Crossgates and Mossgreen Community Council (CMCC). The PCT is seeking residents to help towards planning costs for the current planning development proposals.

Applying for full planning permission for the proposed development has been advised by Fife Council to be in the region of £67,000.

Prizes in the raffle include a helicopter ride for two, a Johnnie Walker Whisky tasting for two in Edinburgh, a large cuddly toy Panda, a hotel break for two in Pitlochry, and much more!

Crossgates residents will receive a Primrose Community Trust booklet through their letterboxes which will include information about the raffle. To participate, you should fill out and return the enclosed raffle ticket stubs along with your full payment in the envelope provided.

The currently planning development proposal is to create a new community hub and sports complex. The PCT need to now secure land at the south of the village to build a complex that will benefit all of their pillars, and to get the required planning permissions.

As previously reported in the Press, Humbug Park was set for a major redevelopment as the PCT had plans to alter and improve the area known as 'The Humbug', but these plans are now on hold due to adverse ground issues and conditions at the park.

However, Ian insisted: “We are still going to use it in the future. It’s an absolutely central part of our community.”

The new community hub and sports complex that the trust wants to create will include sports facilities, a youth club, reception rooms, a café, and function rooms, as well as a new multi-sports pitch with astroturf.

“Our overall approach is to unite the community," said Ian. "My thanks go to the school, the community centre, all the people in Crossgates.

“It’s a long journey and we’re on it now.”
