A VOLUNTEER-LED initiative that offers free bike rides around the Glen for the eldery is set to return for a new season from Monday.

The Dunfermline Pittencrieff chapter of Cycling Without Age Scotland (CWAS) will start up again in Pittencrieff Park early next week.

Volunteer pilots will give residents of care homes in the city and across West Fife the chance to go for ride around the Glen on three-wheeled 'trishaws' on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, which last for around 20 minutes and are pre-booked through the care homes.

It is hoped that members of the general public will also be able to sample free rides on Sundays, from 1-3pm, but under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.

CWAS aim to enhance and enrich lives by giving elderly and disabled people access to the outdoors through their pioneering trishaw rides, access which they say is "denied to so many people simply because of age or limited mobility".

The Dunfermline Pittencrieff chapter's trishaws can be found outside the Peacock Cafe, and can be booked for other times if pilots are available.
