THE FORCE is strong with one Dunfermline store as they gear up to celebrate Free Comic Book Day in style.

On Saturday, May 4 - also known as Star Wars Day - Little Shop of Heroes will be throwing a joint celebration for the two events, inviting customers along for free comic books and cosplay.

Alby Grainger, who runs the store with his wife Louise and daughter Sinéad, has shared his plans to give out thousands of free comics.

He told the Press: "We'll give away thousands of comics to people who come to the shop on Saturday. It’s a worldwide event and this time it's on the 4th of May, Star Wars Day. So it’s a combination of Star Wars Day and Free Comic Book Day, so obviously we will be giving away lots and lots of free comics.

"Lots and lots of fans will be out in force, I myself will be wearing my own Jedi Robes and there will be loads of people out at the shop wearing different cosplay, and a lot of it will be Star Wars."

Those who dress up will even be treated to an extra free comic, giving people the opportunity to grab three free comics on the day.

But Alby warned: "T-shirts are not cosplay!

"It’s while stocks last and you can get one from a choice of about 30 different titles including the likes of Pokemon, Turtles and Doctor Who - which has got Ncuti Gatwa in it, the new 15th Doctor. We’ve also got Spiderman, we’ve got Hell Boy, we’ve got Star Wars - of course, because it’s Star Wars Day - and we've got One Piece, so we’ve got Manga as well this year.

"It’s going to be a great day."

This is the perfect opportunity for people to explore the world of comic books, whether that's picking up your first book or trying out a new genre.

Alby continued: "It’s a lovely, risk-free way of finding out if comics are for you, or even to just see the range of comics available.

"People tend to think of comics only being about superheroes but there are fantasy stories, there are children's stories, horror stories and there are superhero stories too. There literally is something for everyone here."

And to top it all off, a very special guest will be in attendance.

Alby added: "We’ll have a guest artist in the shop, John Bruce, and he draws for trading card companies, that’s the art style he does and he will be in the shop all day on Saturday.

"He’s done Star Wars, Turtles and he’s an official LucasArts artist and he’ll be in store doing little sketches for people."

Little Shop of Heroes will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, May 4.

Free comics will only be available while stocks last.
