A FUNRDAISER has been launched to help cover funeral costs for a young man who lost his life in a car accident.

Gareth Hempseed, from Dunfermline, was killed in a crash on Auldhill Road, Linlithgow, at around 8.35pm on Monday, April 29.

The 20-year-old was the passenger in a black Audi S1, travelling alongside the driver, a 23-year-old male, who was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment following the accident and has since been released.

Now, Gareth's family have started a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of a funeral and to ensure their loved one is given the send off he deserves.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, Gareth’s grandmother Judy said: “My grandson tragically lost his life in a car accident. He was the passenger and only 20 years old.

“All the family are devastated and numb with shock, I’m doing this GoFundMe page on behalf of his mum Suzanne to help raise money towards Gareth’s funeral and a memorial and to give Gareth the send off he deserves.

“Any contribution will be greatly received. Once Gareth’s body has been released, a funeral date will be set.”

A target of £2000 has been set for the fundraiser.

On social media, tributes continue to pour in for Gareth, with many saying the accident has resulted in the “tragic loss of a lovely lad”.

Meanwhile, enquiries into the accident continue, with Police Scotland urging anyone with any information to come forward.

Sergeant Dave Waddell said: “Our thoughts remain with Gareth’s family and friends at what is a very difficult time for them.

“Enquiries into the full circumstances continue and anyone who has not already spoken to officers is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 3583 of April 29, 2024.”
