THE final design of the planned Clackmannan pump track will be unveiled next week, before the project is delivered in the summer.

The purpose built cycling track will be built in the town, with support provided by sportscotland and the Scottish Government.

A presentation of the final pump track design will be held at the Church Hall on Thursday, May 16, from 6pm to 6.30pm.

This is expected to be built in the King George V Park near Clackmannan Primary School, with the chair of the Clackmannan Development Trust delighted to see their campaigning come to fruition.

Peter Goodsir, CDT chair, said: “This a fantastic resource for the local kids and we are delighted the council selected Clackmannan to be the first place to get this opportunity.

“We have been campaigning for a long time and it is great to see it happen through sportscotland with direct government funding.”

The pump track project is just one of the many opportunities the CDT offer to children and adult cyclists in the area.

With the summer months approaching, the CDT offers a bike lending service for people who cannot afford to buy their own.

The service has proven a hit with residents, particularly Iain Donald, better known as blues musician The Gator, who makes good use of the scheme to cycle to Forth Valley College in Stirling.

The Gator said: “Best thing I ever did was decide to improve my wellbeing through cycling. Scott was instrumental in making that happen.”

Lastly, Clackmannan will issue a new map for locals and visitors titled Walk, Cycle Explore with funding from Paths for All.

This will be available for free from the CDT, the health centre and other local businesses in the near future.

Scott Bamford, spokesperson for the CDT, added: “We are delighted with the quality and design of this updated version from Inglewood Press.

“It features two new recommended cycle routes plus the heritage walks and includes lots of local information.

“We have a great deal to be proud of and I am very pleased to get this issued for everyone to appreciate what a fantastic area we live in.”
