FOUR weeks of Scottish Water works in Dunfermline may cause some "inconvenience".

The company have written to residents in the Bellyeoman and Headwell areas of the city to let them know of an "essential" project that's in the pipeline.

Work is set to start on June 3 - between 10pm and 6am Monday to Thursday - for around a month with low water pressure and discoloured water from the tap possible outcomes.

Scottish Water said: "We are always working to look after the water pipes that provide you with great tasting, clear, fresh drinking water.

"This involves regularly cleaning the public water pipes in your area to remove any grit or sediment which has built up over time.

"This is carried out by opening the hydrants on the network, running water through them and then flushing the pipes clean."

The company said that water supplies will not be interrupted but there could be a "change in water pressure and / or discoloured water".

A spokesperson added: "If this happens don't be alarmed, turn on the cold water tap in your kitchen, let the water flow slowly until it runs clear."
