A YOUNG performer from Crossgates is going from strength to strength as he takes a step back from the screen and another step onto the stage.

Aaron MacGregor, 14, who already appears in Movies to Musicals and Limelight Productions, has featured on the hit show, Outlander, and has recently worked with Oppenheimer's Cillian Murphy in the animated movie, Kensuke's Kingdom.

Filming has quietened down of late and to make the most of his downtime, he has been competing in West End Calling, a musical competition that will see him compete in the final in front of judges from theatreland.

His mum, Ashley, told the Press: "It's been amazing. Between 14 and 16, you don't film as much because you need a licence, but you don't need one when you’re 16, so they tend to act down on screen.

"These are the two years that are quieter for his age so when this came up he thought, ‘Do you know what I’m going to do it.’

"He’s been doing really well and he’s never done a competition in his life, it’s not really his thing, but he just went for it."

So far, Aaron has stunned the judges at the auditions in Edinburgh, winning the Scottish heat at the Traverse Theatre, and made it through the semi-finals in Manchester to be the only kid from Scotland in the final.

She continued: "He does get a little bit nervous before the show but that’s what he always does.

"He’s excited and he’s super proud to be representing Scotland. He’s really excited and loves the fact that all the judges are West End performers."

Aaron will be joining 26 other junior contestants at the competition on Monday at 12pm in the Arts Theatre on Leicester Square.

The final is hoped to be live-streamed through the West End Calling social media pages, for more information and to keep updated on the results, follow them on Facebook
