A 40-year-old man who assaulted a nightclub doorman in Dunfermline and spat in the face of a policeman has been told to “grow up”.
Lee McGuinness, of Fod Street, Halbeath, avoided a jail term when he appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, having admitted a string of offences committed on 20th July.
At Life nightclub, Kirkgate, he assaulted a man by punching him on the head.
At Dunfermline police station, he assaulted a constable by spitting on his head.
He also made a threat of violence.
The court was told there was an incident at the nightclub at 3.10am after McGuinness had been causing issues with another patron.
This led to a confrontation and McGuinness punching the doorman on the mouth.
Police were contacted and arrived at the scene to see him acting aggressively.
When arrested and put in a police vehicle, McGuinness said: “I’ll bite your f****** face off”.
He was banging his head off the side of the police van and when he was being taken out, he spat in the face of an officer.
Defence solicitor Aime Allan conceded: “He was lucky to be given his liberty when he appeared from custody following this.
“He quite simply can’t take alcohol but he had consumed it to excess on this occasion and has no recollection of what happened.”
Sheriff Susan Duff told McGuinness: “You’re 40 now. Is it not about time you grew up, for goodness sake?”
She noted his lengthy record and previous jail terms.
However, she imposed a seven-month restriction of liberty order and a community payback order with a year’s supervision, commenting: “This is your last chance.”
