A DUNFERMLINE woman used her daughter’s name to open accounts with catalogue companies and ran up a bill of over £6,500.
The crime only came to light when the daughter had disclosure checks done when going for promotion at work.
Lindsay Currie, 52, of Macbeth Road, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
She admitted that between 1st January and 11th March at Colliston Road, Dunfermline, she pretended to be her daughter and opened accounts with Argos, Fashion World Mail Order and Lowell Grattan.
She entered into purchase agreements with them and obtained items worth £6,624 by fraud.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said in January the daughter had been offered promotion at work and it was during this process the matter came to light.
It transpired that Currie had taken out accounts in the daughter’s name as she could not do this in her own name because of a bad credit score.
Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said his client had admitted what she had done after being questioned by her daughter and the next day the police were informed.
“She remains very close to her daughter and is devastated about all of this. She’s extremely remorseful,” he added.
Sheriff Susan Duff deferred sentencing to find out if Currie is fit to do unpaid work. She will return to court on 2nd October.
