CHANGES TO bin services are about to come into effect in Fife.
Most households in the Kingdom will see a change in their bin collections as a new single shift pattern for waste service staff will be introduced.
So, what are the changes and how will they impact you?
How do I find out if I am impacted?
New online bin calendars became available yesterday (Tuesday, September 17). All households are being encouraged to check their bin calendar for further collections.
You can access the calendar on Fife Council's website and then simply enter your postcode to find your bin collection days.
Why are bin collections changing?
Fife Council have stated on their website that: “We want to deliver the best service possible. To improve collections, most households will see a change in their bin collection days starting on Monday 14th October 2024.
“This is due to the introduction of a new single shift pattern for our waste service staff.
“The current waste and recycling service will still be delivered across Fife. The changes will offer improved collection hours for both residents and council staff.
“Currently, bins can be emptied any time between 6am and 9pm. The new shift patterns mean that collections will take place between 7am to 4.30pm. Bins will still be emptied 5 days a week, Monday to Friday.
“The new arrangement gives people more time to get their bins out. It also reduces noise, providing a quieter environment for residents. In addition, the increase in new housing across the region and the extra travelling required means that the two-shift system is no longer practical.”
When will changes be implemented?
The changes will start on Monday, October 14, 2024.
Where can I access this information?
If you do not have access to an online device, paper copies of bin calendars can be obtained by visiting your local Customer Service Centre.
What should you do if you go a longer period between collections?
There will be processes in place to collect extra waste which is a result of the changes.
Up to two bags of waste will be collected alongside blue bins on the weeks beginning October 14 and 26.
Up to two bags of plastics and cans will be taken with green bins on weeks of 14 and 26 October, or the first green bin collection after the changeover.
A maximum of two bundles of paper and cardboard will be uplifted with grey bins on weeks of October 28 and November 8, or the first collection of the grey bin after the changeover.
For brown bins, you should look at the calendar for your next collection. If you are concerned about excess food waste, this should go into your blue landfill bin.
In the meantime, recycling centres remain open as usual and you can book a bulky uplift online at the moment.
