Fife weather - Yellow warning issued for snow and ice

Expect snow showers and icy roads affecting low levels from Thursday at 4pm, persisting overnight, leading to potential travel disruptions. The warning has been issued for Fife, and the vast majority of Scotland.

There is currently a yellow warning for the Kingdom for rain, lasting until 11.59pm tonight.

An estimated 1 to 2 cm of snow is possible in places on low ground by Friday morning.

Elevated terrains above 300 metres could potentially witness snow accumulations between 2 to 5 cm, with isolated pockets possibly seeing up to 10 cm.

The wintry conditions will fundamentally alter road safety, which might result in elongated travel times across those using roads, bus, and train services.

There's also a cautionary note for possible slips and falls on the icy surface, which could potentially lead to injuries.

These conditions are especially likely on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, creating an extra challenge for commuters and travellers.

The Met Office has recommended careful route planning, allowing extra time for journeys, keeping a close watch on potential road closures or public transport delays, and making adjustments to plans where necessary.

If you're driving, it's advised to pack some essentials in case of any hurdles, which include warm clothing, food and water, a torch, ice scraper, a blanket, a warning triangle, a high-visibility vest, and a car phone charger.

For those making journeys by foot, it might be worth sticking to the pavements along main roads.
