The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice in Fife, including Dunfermline.

The warning, which begins at 4pm on Thursday and runs until midday on Friday, could lead to travel disruptions and slippery surfaces.

There is also still a flood alert in place in the Kingdom, until further notice.

Thursday starts with widespread rain, which is expected to turn wintry as colder air moves in later in the day.

Residents should brace for longer journey times and icy patches on roads, pavements, and cycle paths.

Morning temperatures are set to hover around 3C, making it cold enough to feel unpleasant but not cold enough for snow initially.

Rain is likely to persist through the morning, gradually reducing as the afternoon progresses.

By 4pm, when the yellow warning takes effect, the town will start to feel the chill of incoming colder air.

Afternoon temperatures are expected to be around 3–4°C with decreasing rain probability, dropping to 60 per cent.

Come the evening, conditions are expected to worsen.

As temperatures fall to between 2–1°C by early evening, the risk of icy patches forming increases.

The town can expect lighter and more intermittent rain, but with a higher likelihood of the wet surfaces freezing over, resulting in widespread icy stretches overnight.

The highlighted risk of ice becomes more significant into the night, with the possibility of occasional wintry showers under the Met Office warning.

For Friday morning, expect the primary hazard to still be ice.

Damp surfaces left in the wake of the precipitation are expected to have frozen overnight.

Wind speeds are expected to remain light to moderate throughout the day.
