Fife weekend weather forecast amid snow and ice warning

This warning, which starts at 9pm on Saturday and is in place until 10am the following morning, states that heavy snow may fall at times, particularly on higher ground.

Saturday in the Kingdom is expected to see a sequence of steadily rising temperatures and sunny spells throughout the morning.

The midday peak will see temperatures at about 3C, with clear skies remaining as the day progresses.

As the evening approaches, temperatures are set to drop again, with an increasing chance of wintry showers notably at around 9pm.

Moving into the early hours of Sunday, from 12am up until 6am, snow showers are predicted, with temperatures hovering around 1C, rendering untreated roads and pavements likely to be icy.

This is the key risk window, with ice and snow potentially creating dangerous conditions for motorists and pedestrians.

As Sunday continues, snow is expected to turn to a wintry mix of sleet, and eventually, rain.

Between 8am and 9am, temperatures are anticipated to rise to 2C, bringing showers with them, marking the beginning of a gradual thaw.

From midday onwards, the rain will persist and temperatures are expected to climb to around 5C.

The rain is likely to continue until late evening.

Those needing to travel have been advised to take necessary precautions, including checking for road closures or delays to public transport, as well as allowing extra time for journeys.

Motorists are also encouraged to prepare their vehicles with winter essentials in the event of any delays.
