A DALGETY BAY couple had their eyes glued to their TV screens on Tuesday night as their dream home was showcased.

Alan and Lucy Brown’s ‘Glasshouse’ was the star attraction of More 4 production, ‘Building the Dream’, a show focused on property buyers turning empty plots of land into their ideal home.

The couple’s journey began in August 2012 when they spotted the plot on Lumsdaine Drive – overlooking the Forth bridges – listed for sale.

Within a couple of days, they had snapped up the land and reached out to host architectural designer Charlie Luxton who followed the impressive build’s progress.

The two-storey house has three en-suite bathrooms, a master bedroom en-suite and attached dressing room and a dining and living area on a large balcony with views south over the Firth of Forth.

Alan, 40, said: “We had been looking at many properties for some time and none of them were quite right so we decided to do it ourselves and start from scratch.”

Along with their 11-year-old twin daughters, the family moved in just before Christmas and duly had a party to celebrate the completion of the project.

A delighted Alan added: “We spent around £480,000 but have since had the property valued around the £1million mark, essentially doubling our money.

"But we’ll never sell Glasshouse. We designed this for our family and we don’t see ourselves moving. We just want to enjoy it.”
