A DALGETY BAY couple hoping to win the wedding of their dreams have raised nearly £5,000 for charity.

Lizzy Aitken and Chris Shields entered the ‘Wedding to Remember’ contest last summer and have since been working hard to raise money and awareness for the Remember my Baby charity, which offers remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth.

Organised by Dunfermline photographer Jenn Knox, the competition gave couples the challenge of raising as much money as possible for the Remember My Baby charity and The Brain Tumour Charity.

The couple who raise the most money win a spectacular £15,000 wedding at Balmule House in Dunfermline on October 5 this year plus photography, wedding cars and rings.

Chris, 40, and Lizzy, 34, pictured with son Cohen, have been together for 11 years and engaged for four of them.

In 2009, they were delighted to hear that they were expecting twin boys and in November that year, Cohen and Caillen were born, eight weeks prematurely.

Tragically, Caillen suffered from a brain haemorrhage and passed away when he was only three-days-old. Since then, the couple have organised various charity events over the years to raise money for the neonatal unit at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, and other infant loss charities.

When they heard about Jenn’s competition, they were pleased to raise money for Remember My Baby.

“RMB wasn’t around when Caillen passed and we feel we could have benefitted from the amazing support they provide,” said Lizzy.

“Money raised will go to good use to provide bereaved parents with treasured photographs and memories of their little angels.”

After setting an initial fundraising target of £1,500, they have now raised just under £5,000 and are hoping this will go up before the competition closes at the end of this month.

Money has been raised through a variety of events including a ladies’ night, a children’s Christmas party, various raffles and an online Pie Face challenge.

“We want to give it one last push to generate more money for this amazing charity and feel that winning the wedding would be a bonus,” added Lizzy.
