A DALGETY BAY couple’s personal tragedy has spurred them on to raise money for a fundraising competition and win the wedding of their dreams.

Lizzy Aitken and Chris Shields have won a ‘Wedding to Remember’, a competition that has raised £20,000 for charities Remember my Baby and The Brain Tumour Charity.

The contest was organised by Dunfermline photographer Jenn Knox, who spoke to a variety of wedding suppliers and organised the amazing prize of a wedding at Balmule House on October 5, costing more than £16,000.

When the competition started last August, couples were asked to raise money for the two charities, with the couple who collected most cash by February winning the wedding.

Lizzy and Chris got involved in the competition as they lost a baby in 2009, when they had twin sons Cohen and Caillen.

Caillen sadly passed away from a brain haemorrhage when he was only three-days-old.

Lizzy said: “When Caillen passed away there wasn’t an amazing charity like ‘Remember my Baby’, so we wanted to raise money and awareness for such a great cause.”

The couple initially set a fundraising target of £5,000, however, their personal total is nearer £10,000.

Taking into account fundraising from the other couples who entered, the grand total to be split between both charities is a staggering £20,000.

Jenn chose charities which were close to her heart. The photographer is a volunteer for ‘Remember My Baby’, who provide professional photographs to parents who sadly don’t leave hospital with their new-born children.

Jenn also supported the Brain Tumour Charity because her friend is currently receiving support from them.

She said: “I’m overwhelmed to have been involved with raising so much money for two great charities.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Chris and Lizzy on their wedding day and, along with all the other great businesses who have supported this, to give them a Wedding to Remember!

“My best friend, Paul, has a brain tumour and is currently being cared for in a hospice. This is such a lovely positive thing to focus on and Paul and his family are over the moon with the efforts of everyone involved in raising such a phenomenal amount.

“I want to send a big thank you to the suppliers, the couples who registered and of course everyone who put their hand in their pocket and donated.”
