PREPARATIONS are well under way for one of Dunfermline’s biggest days of the year, the Christmas lights switch-on.

The town centre will see another large influx of visitors with family fun events taking place throughout Saturday, November 18.

The excitement will build up ahead of the spectacular, colourful parade which starts at East Port at 4.15pm with Santa switching on the lights at 5.30pm to signal the start of the festive season in Dunfermline.

Earlier in the day, the Kingsgate Shopping Centre will be hosting a food and crafts event showcasing products from local businesses, while there will be a live entertainment stage at the Glen Gates from 2.30pm through to the big switch-on.

At Waterstone’s store in the Kingsgate there will be a children’s book festival taking place from 11am to 3pm.

There will also be special performances of the play, ‘Christmas in the Glen Again’, by local writer Caroline Copeland. These will take place at The Canmore, Canmore Street, at 11.30am and 2pm on Saturday and Sunday with tickets priced £5.

There will be a projection on the large gable end next to the gap site in the High Street. The images, featuring the history of Dunfermline, will be shown on a loop and the first showing will take place at 4pm on switch-on day.

Dunfermline Delivers events manager Chris Foote said: “We’re once again looking forward to our fabulous parade and Christmas lights switch-on.

“It always brings a large turnout to the town centre and this is going to be the case again this year. We’re delighted to be working closely with local businesses and community groups to make this another enjoyable day for the people of Dunfermline.”
