SHE had long flowing locks when she tied the knot but a big-hearted Inverkeithing woman is set to chop them all off for her first wedding anniversary.

Lauren Snape, 26, will donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust and hopes to raise enough money for the organisation to make a wig from it.

After growing her hair for her wedding to husband Liam last year, she wants to help others after the couple had to go through health concerns of their own.

“It all started when my husband Liam was diagnosed with a brain tumour in late 2013,” she told the Press.

“He went through surgery to have the tumour removed during January 2014.

“We luckily found out it was benign however it does secrete a hormone which could cause other cancers.

“We were also told part of his tumour was wrapped around his carotid artery which could not be removed. This resulted in him having radiotherapy to help try and shrink the remaining tumour. He now has regular check ups to see if anything else has changed or reduced.”

While having to attend countless hospital appointments, Lauren, who works as a platform administrator for Aegon, started to think of how parents with sick children get through similar situations and found out about the Little Princess Trust.

“Although I don’t know anyone who has used this charity I still wanted to help them in some way,” she explained.

“When I grew my hair out for my wedding in March of 2017, I wanted to donate my hair to allow them to make a wig. I realise that it has been a year since my original thought to do this but it has never left my mind over the last year.

“I also thought about fundraising for them as it costs them between £350 and £500 to make the wig which they give to children and young adults up to the age of 24.

“This way I can give a little extra support.”

With husband Liam at her side, Lauren will go under the scissors on March 13 at the Lime Salon in Inverkeithing.

“Liam feels I am being very admirable in donating my hair to those who need it more,” added Lauren.

“He knows that I am very passionate about it and is very proud of me for doing this.”
