THE new BBC Scotland channel aired for the first time last night, attracting a mixed reaction from viewers.

Our sister title The Herald's own Alison Rowat described the channel's premiere as "Hogmanay TV on a Sunday in February"

BBC Scotland director Donalda MacKinnon predicted the new television channel would be a success over time.

As the channel aired its first night, viewers gave the channel a lukewarm reception on social media.

Some agreed that the channel needs time to find its feet.

While others suggested it launched with a whimper instead of a bang.

Others found its output Glasgow-centric and "condescending".

But some say the real test will be when the channel's flagship news programmes airs tonight.
