I HAVE long been sceptical about some of the statistics we are bombarded with nowadays, very often by politicians in order to blame each other for this and that.

One of the recent subjects being highlighted is the suggestion that there is a very high percentage of obesity in primary school children. On my frequent school-run trips to pick up my grandchildren, I began to notice how slim and fit-looking 99 per cent of the kids are.

I was very interested, therefore, in your recent supplement, 'Top Class', in the Press of June 9, featuring pictures of our Dunfermline 11-year-olds, which confirms my opinion that the vast majority of our kids are nowhere near obese or even overweight.

Can anyone tell me who makes up the statistics, and do they get paid?
