HAVING read on page 8 of last week's Press that Fife Council’s arts budget is £12 million, I was struck by the article just four pages later on the chronic problem of potholes in Kelty (and no doubt up and down the county).
That £12 million equates to around £32 per Fifer; so mum, dad and the 1.5 kids are some £113 poorer, just so that art-lovers can be subsidised.
The only real art being perpetrated here is the black art of abusing taxpayers’ money. This is clearly a gross misallocation of funds.
Libertarians like me argue that it is not a legitimate function of government to waste our money on the arts (nor on sport, for that matter).
Instead, get those potholes fixed!
