CARNEGIE STEELERS will step up preparations for the new American football season by hosting a six-team pre-season tournament on Sunday.

The club, who are about to enter their second season in the British American Football Association (BAFA) National Flag Football League, will welcome leading Scottish sides Glasgow Hornets and Grangemouth Broncos to Robertson Road playing fields for the six flags mini league tournament, that will also feature the Edinburgh Outlaws, Dunbeth Dragons and Carnegie’s other competitive team, the Carnegie Reapers.

Each team will play each other once during the event, which will run from 11am-4pm, with a points system to determine overall positions being used.

Steelers manager Steven Burness said, “To have two of the leading teams in Scotland, the Grangemouth Broncos and Glasgow Hornets, taking part is fantastic and shows that we have gained a lot of respect from other teams in the league for what we’re doing, particularly in our plans to develop the sport at youth level. We’ve been generating a lot of buzz around the UK and I like to hope that the work we are doing will pay off. We’ve recently picked up four new players and have another six who are looking to join and we’ve got posters up around Dunfermline to get the word out.

“This tournament gives the Reapers their first chance to play competitively, give us an insight into different teams and work on our own play. Everyone has a love for the sport so it should be a fun day.” For more information on the club, visit www.facebook.com/carnegieFootball.
