<text> SATURDAY saw history made at McKane Park when the new Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club played its first match.

And it turned out to be a good day for the home side after they won a high scoring match against Falkland.

It was the beginning of a new era with Dunfermline and Dunfermline Carnegie cricket clubs deciding to amalgamate and taking to the crease as one team for the inaugural game.

Falkland won the toss and elected to bat on the McKane artificial track.

The visitors were finding the bowling of Usman Saleem and Ian Leggat hard to get away and Leggat struck first.

Usman then took a wicket with a good catch taken by club president Richie Barclay.

Despite the cold weather, catches continued to be taken and more wickets fell, until a good innings of 55 by Falkland captain and former Fifeshire skipper, Wayne Sullivan, got them amongst the runs.

Although he rode his luck to get past the half century mark his effort, along with 37 from former Dunfermline colt Adam Ferguson, took the score to 195.

Alan Leitch gave Dunfermline and Carnegie a decent start, although he lost partners at regular intervals.

He moved into the 20s before being out and the arrival of skipper Davie Miller saw the scoreboard start to tick over regularly.

And when he was joined by Usman the runs came even more quickly.

Miller continued to accumulate runs and with Usman's stroke play the hosts won by three wickets.

Falkland XI 195 for 8 W Sullivan 55, A Ferguson 37, A Leitch 2 for 18.

Dunfermline and Carnegie 196 for 7, D Miller 45 not out, U Saleem 33, A Leitch 28, G Langlands 2 for 29.

After the game, Barclay, who did admit to dropping a couple of catches, aired his delight at what was a big day following the winter merger of the clubs.

'This first game has seemed a long time in coming around and it was good to get out there,' he said.

'The match was played in good spirit and there were some encouraging individual performances from our lads and hopefully over the next couple of weeks everyone will get the chance to tune up for the start of league cricket on 25th April.

'It is an exciting time for everyone connected with the new club and hopefully both teams will have good seasons in their respective divisions.' </text> <text> SATURDAY saw history made at McKane Park when the new Dunfermline and Carnegie Cricket Club played its first match.
