FROM two-wheeled thrills to the roar of the British Touring Car Championship, Knockhill have revved up a sensational summer of action for petrolheads.

Scotland’s national racing circuit is gearing up for its busiest summer ever as it prepares to host 13 events across successive weekends.

From the arrival of the MCE British Superbikes on June 25-26 through to the third running of the Paul Walker Tribute event, which features track day sessions, hundreds of show cars and the Super Lap Scotland Championship.

The first of Knockhill’s top summer events will see 15,000 bike fans descend on West Fife for its annual round of the world’s most competitive domestic championship and they will be able to see Scots riders featuring across all of the classes.

Hawick’s Stuart Easton is beginning to find form after a disappointing start in the premier MCE Superbike Championship Taylor and Tarren MacKenzie, sons of the triple BSB champion Niall MacKenzie, are at the sharp end of their races.

On July 24, the first World of Supercars Show and Track Day is expected to attract more than 150 super car owners to show off their vehicles, with 50-75 of those going onto the track for a spin.

Cars that have been confirmed to appear include a Bugatti Veyron, McLaren P1, Ford GT, Ferrari F40, Jaguar XJ220 and a further 80 supercars.

West Fife racing hero Gordon Shedden will continue in his bid for British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) glory on August 13-14 when Knockhill will host the seventh round and yet another 15,000 plus audience.

‘Flash’, business development manager at the circuit, is a two-time champion and is aiming to defend the crown that he won memorably in 2015, while other events on the card include the MSA Formula Ford Championships, Porsche Cup and Ginetta Super Cup.

A further two days of intense racing will take place on September 10-11 in the shape of the Super Touring Car Championship, which will bring together touring cars from the 1980s up to the year 2000.

Stuart Gray, director of events at Knockhill, said: “The summer is our busy period of course.

“What makes the 2016 summer different is that we have 13 events which are held back to back without having a single weekend off.

“The MCE Superbikes will launch our unprecedented line-up of events and thereafter two further bike race days, three car race meetings – including the world famous Dunlop British Touring Car Championship – and the first ever visit of the Super Touring Car Championship in September.

“Two Super Lap Scotland events, which will include the Paul Walker Tribute and special themed Hot Hatch Track Days, will be amongst the varied selection of events.

“Finally, the first ever Autoglym World of Supercars event on July 24 will also see us host possibly the biggest gathering of supercar exotica ever seen in one place in Scotland before.”
