KNOCKHILL will reverberate to the sound of revving motorsport engines being pushed to their limits this weekend as its 2017 racing season officially gets underway.

The opening round of the Scottish Motor Racing Club (SMRC) Championship takes place at the circuit on Sunday and more than 100 competitors from across the country will vie for race wins that will propel them to championship glory.

A total of seven SMRC events will be held at Knockhill throughout the year and the 16-race programme will feature Scottish Formula Ford, Mini Cooper, BMW, Saloons and Sportscars, Legends, Fiesta and the the Classic Championship races.

The action begins with qualifying from 8.30am before the serious door-to-door racing revs into gear at around 10.35am.

Sunday also marks Knockhill's third Armed Forces Appreciation Day, where any serving or veteran from all three of the Armed Forces will be able to enjoy the action for free, while anyone who accompanies them can gain admission for a concessionary rate.

Stuart Gray, Knockhill's events director, commented: "We’re all very eager to get the motorsports season underway and what better way than to start with a bumper Scottish Championship race event and our Armed Forces Appreciation Day. Knockhill always provides great action and with 16 races taking place on the day, the action will be fast and frantic for all to enjoy.

"Our Armed Forces Day is a special one for us, particularly as we were awarded the Bronze Covenant last November for the work we’ve done over the years with the Armed Services. Indeed, our SMRC car race meetings even have ex-personnel within their ranks racing on track, further enhancing the link between Knockhill and the Armed Forces."

The SMRC Scottish Championship race days offer fans great value for money with no less than eight hours of fast and furious action to keep them enthralled from start to finish.

Tickets for adults, if bought in advance by midnight on Saturday, cost just £13 or can be bought at the gate on the day for £15.
