THE season has begun in earnest at Dunfermline Curling Club and a variety of matches and medals have already been decided.
After winning the Kinross Curling Club Championship in October for the second season running, with the successful rink containing Stewart Barr, Stuart Rennie, Grant Barr and Derek Laird, a further three challenge matches were won comprehensively.
A four-rink clash with Markinch resulted in a 38-11 victory before Dunfermline won by 16 and 17 shots respectively in four-rink and three-rink challenges with Inverkeithing and Boreland Curling Club within the space of three days.
Those successes have set the tone for an action-packed programme, which includes the Donald Whyte daytime league, in which Jim Stevenson has an early lead.
The opening club bonspiel was won by Jim Stevenson’s rink of Alec Bowie, S Young and J Lindsay by 10-4, while R Stevenson, A Barr, B Maybe and E McFarlane won the Barry Stirling Trophy 11-2.
The winners of the Dow Medal final were Alan Barr (s), David Laird, I Simpson and Eddie McFarlane; the annual ‘points’ night was won by Fraser Thomson; and the rink of J Stevenson (s), A Barr, A Mitchell and B Maybe won the Lochend Farm Shop Bonspiel earlier this month.
The club’s festive event followed, with the rink of J Stevenson, S Young, A Johnston and G Stewart winning 13-4.
