ACROBAY Gymnastics Club picked up a host of medals in the Scottish Acro Invitational.

The annual event, which was held at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell over the weekend of January 20-21, attracted almost 200 partnerships from some of the top gymnastics clubs in Scotland, England and Ireland – including 17 from Acrobay.

The Rosyth-based club’s gymnasts braved the blizzards to take part in North Lanarkshire and included Mia Logan and Sophie Humphries, and Caitlin Richardson and Lucy Winch (Grade 3 Women’s Pairs); Sean Habrovitsky and Kamila Dencika (Grade 3 Mixed Pairs); Emma Gillies, Kirsty Cochrane and Daisy Campbell, Nephele Idehen, Jasmine Parris and Eilish McNicoll, and Clara Davidson, Ruth Carson and Anna Walker (Grade 3 Women’s Groups); Lewis Cullen-Young and Katie Hendry (Grade 4 Mixed Pairs); Nicole Paltiel, Annaleece Simrick and Melissa Parris, Catherine Hillis, Aimee Arnott and Poppy Jones, and Amy Middleton, Eve Ormiston and Hannah Johnston (Grade 4 Women’s Groups) Eve Gillies and Kayla Ballantyne ( Grade 5 Women’s Pairs); Orla O’Neill, Amy Byrne and Caitlin Mitchell (Grade 5 Women’s Groups); Abby Martindale and Grace Crawford, and Catriona Mitchell and Ailidh Forbes (Age 11-16 Women’s Pairs); Olivia Keir, Erin Bailey and Casey Cameron, and Mica Fraser, Deanna Canny-Armitt and Melissa Dewar (Age 11-16 Women’s Groups) and Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands (Age 13-19 Women’s Groups).

At the end of a weekend that showcased some dazzling displays of acrobatic gymnastics, Acrobay celebrated plenty of podium success.

Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands, Orla O’Neill, Amy Byrne and Caitlin Mitchell, Amy Middleton, Eve Ormiston and Hannah Johnston, and Lewis Cullen-Young and Katie Hendry, all struck gold while Mia Logan and Sophie Humphries won silver.

Olivia Kerr, Erin Bailey and Casey Cameron, and Sean Habrovitsky and Kamila Dencika, took home bronze and Suzanne Fraser, Acrobay’s head coach, said: “It was a good weekend for Acrobay.

“All of our partnerships did really well, I see improvements every time they perform.

“It was a great experience to be able to compete against some of Britain’s best acrobatic gymnasts on home turf and I’m sure they’ll continue to go from strength to strength over the rest of the competition season.”
