TWO talented West Fife footballers are celebrating after they netted dream call-ups for Scotland.

Niamh Noble and Georgie Robb, who play for Bayside Girls 14s, will follow in the footsteps of Alicia Yates by attending a women’s under-15 training camp in Largs this week.

The youngsters were selected after impressing coaches at a national camp, held at Tulliallan Castle, and are the latest to roll of the Bayside conveyor belt and on to the international stage.

Goalkeeper Alicia, who now plays for Hibernian, was part of the all-conquering Bayside Girls 13s team of 2016 that won the Scottish Cup, League Cup and league without losing a game, and has played for Scotland at under-15, under-16 and under-17 level.

And now it’s a chance for Niamh, 13, and Georgie, 12. David Noble, Niamh’s dad and coach of the 14s team, said: “For a relatively small, community club, it is an amazing accolade for the players and everyone involved. I know that Georgie was over the moon and Niamh was shocked. She tries to understate everything and tried to convince herself that she’d maybe have a chance next year.

“Over 100 girls attended the national camp but they picked 21. We have six kids in the East Region squad; there are six around Scotland and, from that, a squad was picked to go to the national camp.

“I’m assuming they’ll use the famous Seamill Hydro, but they’ll all meet at Hampden before travelling to Largs for training. The SFA are treating them as national players and on a par with the other teams within the national set-up, so it’s going to be a fantastic experience.”

This season Bayside have been competing in the Scottish Women’s Football (SWF) Under-15 Performance League. While the majority are still eligible to play under-13 level, Niamh, Georgie and their team-mates have faced the likes of Glasgow City, Hibernian and Hearts in an age group two years above.

David added: “It has been tough but they’ve thrived playing against the very best in Scotland and players close on two years older. The club is thriving; we’ve got over 80 in the girls section, and its achievements have been well-documented. It’s a club that’s going in the right direction and everyone is really chuffed for Niamh and Georgie.”
