INVERKEITHING Hillfield Swifts are looking for a new manager after Lee Richardson tendered his resignation at the weekend.

The Ballast Bank club announced on Saturday that the former Oakley United and Rosyth boss, together with coaches John Steele and Stephen Harley, had quit in the wake of their 6-1 Alex Jack Cup first round defeat to Edinburgh United.

The Swifts are competing in their first season at senior level, having had an application to join the East of Scotland League accepted in April, after which they quickly moved to appoint Richardson.

However, he leaves after just seven games in charge.

In a short statement, the club said: "The Swifts would like to say thank you to Lee Richardson, John Steele and Stephen Harley for all their help in putting together our EOS senior team.

"The committee accepted their written resignation at the end of today’s game.

"We wish them well for the future."

Following his appointment, Richardson moved to put together a squad to play in the Swifts' maiden senior season, and recruited the likes of former Rosyth duo Ryan O'Connor and Lee Duffy.

He told the Press that the challenge was "really exciting" and that it was "a privilege for me and John to be asked".

He spoke of a long-term plan, which included bringing players through the club's age-group teams and into the senior team, but his reign is now over.

After opening with a 4-0 defeat at home to Hill of Beath Hawthorn in the East of Scotland qualifying league, Swifts then won their first match by 5-3 at Stirling University (EOSFL).

But a heavy defeat at Bonnyrigg Rose was followed by another against Linlithgow Rose in their opening league game and, while they progressed in the Football Nation Qualifying Cup against Hawick Royal Albert, the Edinburgh United game proved to be Richardson's last in charge.

The Swifts are seeking applications for the role, and anyone interested should contact chairman Craig Reid on 07487848028.
