SANTA hats will be donned and trainers laced up when Pitreavie Amateur Athletics Club host their annual Jingle Bell Run on Sunday.

The festive event raises cash for charity and races include a Christmas Cracker Relay, a children’s 1k event, a Rudolph Racerunner Relay 5k on the track for athletes using racerunning bikes, and the main event – the Jingle Bell 5k run.

Last year more than 200 runners, aged from 7 to 70, donned Santa hats to take part in four events, which culminated in the 4.5km seniors race with a grandstand finish on the track at Pitreavie.

This year, proceeds will go to the Prostate Cancer UK charity, a cause close to the club’s heart as one of their most dedicated members is undergoing treatment for the disease.

Race director Nicola Moriarty said: “The Jingle Bell events are a great way to get into the Christmas spirit while also helping a great cause.

“Our aim has always been to provide an inclusive event for all ages and abilities and it has been great to see people from across Scotland signing up.”

Everyone participating will receive a Santa hat to run in and will receive a medal on completion.
